Sydney Jazz Workshop

Last Sunday of the month at Club Ashfield.

Next Event Sunday 24 November 2024, 4 pm to 7 pm. (FULLY BOOKED)

Please give us as much information as needed to ensure a successful performance. We will provide a backing group of professional musicians to support you, usually piano, bass and drums, although other musicians may join in too.

Please submit charts with chords and/or lead sheets for your songs in concert pitch (the key of the piano or voice) 7 Days before your performance. You may choose 3 songs for your performance but have a couple in reserve in case we have extra time. Vocalists are welcome.

Our band leader will review your charts and become familiar with them before the event and discuss how you want to present your music on the night. We call it a Jam Session but in reality, it is a workshop on jazz performance.

Bring a music stand.

Drummers need to bring kit – as little as possible because of the logistics of getting it into the first floor of Club Ashfield without interrupting the gig.

We have a sound system. You may bring your own mics and leads (preferably 3 pin XLR leads). Guitarists needing amplification may bring an amp or 1/4″ leads to our desk.

Workshop your performance with the musicians; talk to them about your performance and how to develop it.

Register using the form below. We will respond with a confirming email. This email will give you instructions on sending us copies of your charts and lead sheets so the band can be ready for your performance. One form per performance – include several musicians in the entry.

Send your charts and lead sheets by email to Admin@sydneyjazzclub.org.au.

Entry to the event is free and is open to all, especially young musicians interested in jazz.

Backing Band

The Riverside 3, featuring David Ridyard on clarinet, Ollie O’Reilly on piano, Colin Davis on double bass, and supported by Chris Gildersleeve on Banjo.
